February 21, 2012 - The final weekend of the WESCO regular season is coming up this Saturday, Feb. 25th. This is a very big weekend for all 4 of our WESCO teams as first place seeds and tournament births are on the line. I hope everyone supporting our program is planning to be at Kings and Everett this Saturday. As a tune-up, two of our programs traveled down to Vancouver and had very successful showings in the Oregon Prep Basketball President's Day Tournament. Reports are listed below. Our 4th/5th Select team also had a great weekend. Now, on to our team reports:
"The SWISH boys Saturday can be summed up in a few words, they took charge, played as a team and over came their opponents in both games winning 28-11 and 28-26. Way to go boys!"
-Submitted by Jessica Hobson
"With Presidents weekend having no weekend games, the 8th grade boys took their game on the road to Vancouver Washington and engaged in Tournament play. The 8th grade pools held 11 teams from Oregon and Washington, the Marysville 8th grade boys won their 1st 2 games with an amazing come from behind win in the last 3 minutes and a last second 3 point play by Bryce Juneau Jr. with 6 seconds on the clock to win the game 51-49, those 3 points added to Bryce’s total of 30 points for the game.
In Sundays semi-final game, the Marysville Boys beat the NW Panther’s from Tacoma and advanced to the championship game where they lost to the Vanport (Inner city Portland, Oregon) Dynasty, who just happened to be the current Division 3 AAU National Champions for 14U (8th grade) boys."
February 15, 2012 - The regular season is coming down to the wire for MaauB. Our last week of home games for 2012 was very exciting and set up a wild final weekend of WESCO action on February 25th. We will have 3 teams playing for 1st place or a share of first place, with 1 team fighting for a spot in the WESCO Championship Tourney when we head to Kings and Everett. Our 5th and 8th grade teams are headed to a President's Day tournament in Vancouver, WA this weekend. All other teams are taking some time off. Now on to our team reports:
Game 1: Marysville 59, Shorewood 15
The boys played a great game against Shorewood to kick off the action on Saturday. Luke Dobler got us started with 10 quick points in the first quarter. As the game wore on we got great contributions from everyone in the lineup. RaeQuon Battle set the pace with 11 points, followed by Dobler with 10, Carlos Macias with 9 and Roman Proctor 8. Overall, a great team win!
Game 2: Marysville 66, Shorecrest 29
The boys came out strong against a very good Shorecrest team in game 2. Camron Chism got the team started dropping 15 points in the first quarter. The hot shooting continued as the game went on, and added to the great defense the boys played throughout. All of the boys contributed great minutes and the result was a great performance to cap off the final home game of the regular season. Camron Chism led the way with 22 points, followed by Caleb Koellmer with 16, and Luke Dobler with 9.
Game 1: Shorewood, 35, Marysville 34
The team played two strong games today. They lost to Shorewood 35-34 in the
first game of the day that went right down to the final buzzer. Collin
Montez led the boys with 13 points.
Game 2: Marysville 49, Shorecrest 47
The boys led for most of the game and played a great all around game. They
played great pressure defense and controlled the glass and paint on both
ends of the floor. Collin Montez led the the team with 20 points and strong
rebounding, ball handling, and defense. Noah Wallace scored 13 points and
showed that he can control the tempo of the game when it counts. Isaiah
Valera scored 7 points but also did solid work on the glass and shot well
from the free throw line. Finally, Andre Calvo gave solid minutes
defensively, as well as scoring some big buckets.

UPDATE - February 6, 2012 - Marysville AAU Basketball survived another weekend of exciting action. This time starting at 8:00 A.M. Thanks to all of our parents for the support with the WESCO games this weekend. Next up is our final weekend of home games against Shorewood and Shorecrest. Please check the Parent Information link for upcoming assignments. Now on to our team reports:
"The SWISH boys played two games on Saturday. They may have been defeated but they played hard, very intense, and took bumps and bruises home with them to prove that they gave it their all in the end. Good luck to the boys for next weekend!!"
"As the community continues its game of “musical gyms,” inspired by snowed-out high school games, the 5th grade MAAUB boys secured two more wins this weekend, making their WESCO record 13-0. The boys started their first game in slightly slow mode, but that 8am start was early for everyone. The boys overrode the snooze buttons and rallied to win against Mount Lake Terrace 39 – 22, enjoying the full-court MPHS gym (set up for varsity later) and packing the house… kinda. The second game was played at 4:30 on the MMS” ice-rink,” and the way the game was played… hockey pads might have been helpful. Proving once again that good defense is the best offense, our boys beat Jackson 42 – 21 in a fast-paced battle. Our MAAUB boys converted 19 free throws! We have met some hard-working competitors, and emotions sometimes rise, but our team (and parents) continue to keep their eyes on the ball. Congratulate your hard-working basketball player on his fine sportsmanship. It matters.
Way to go, boys! Keep up the great work!"

"Jackson 43, Marysville 32
The 7th graders got off to a very slow start and dug a big hole in the first half, but made a big comeback after the intermission. The second half saw the seventh graders play to their potential both offensively and defensively. Collin Montez and Isaiah Valera played tough defense inside and controlled the defensive boards. Noah Wallace showed he can be a good floor leader and playmaker. Guys coming off the bench came in and gave good minutes as well. Cody Day and Skylaer Hatch were just a couple of the guys that made contributions.
Collin Montez led the way in scoring with 16 points and great moves in the paint, but every single player came in and did good work..."
"The 8th grade Marysville Select AAU team fought their way to 2 solid wins over the weekend, beating the Terrace Hawks and the Jackson Wolfpack. In 2 very different games the boys had to make adjustments in order to get the upper hand. Against a solid Terrace Hawks team, Bryce Juneau had an outstanding game, scoring 19 points and dishing out 6 assists. Against the Jackson Wolfpack, Jaime Hernandez provided a much needed spark off the bench, scoring 16 points, while Darion Joseph had a double double, with 10 points and 10 rebounds."
January 30, 2012 - Another great weekend of hoops is in the books for MaauB! Please check out the links in the toolbar for game results and updated WESCO standings. Team reports are also posted below as they are received. Please make time to review the updated WESCO game schedule. We have changed both times and locations for our home games this weekend against Mountlake Terrace and Jackson. Please check with your coaches if you have any questions. We will also be posting practice schedules for the rest of the season later this week. So check back often for an updated schedule. Look forward to having everyone out to support our second round of home games this weekend!
"MAAUB 5th grade team had another matchup with Edmonds-Woodway, after beating them during the Holiday Hoopfest championship game in December. Our team beat them again, winning a VERY physical game by a score of 49 – 25. Several boys sustained injuries, and the ice packs were distributed like door prizes, but everyone managed to be rested and recovered and ready to play in our Sunday game against Mt. Vernon. And while the boys started in slow gear Sunday (in the refrigerated gym!), they turned up their heat for a great game, in which every player had a chance to get on the court. Luke Dobler ended the 3rd quarter with a flare, sinking a shot from beyond the half-court line. The boys won by a score of 61-21, making their season record 11 – 0 so far. Way to go, boys! Keep up the great work!"

"The 8th grade Marysville boys had a solid weekend on the road getting 2 wins. In Saturday’s game vs. Edmunds Woodway, who was 1 place and 1 loss behind Marysville, the Big men for Marysville took over, with Taylor Koellmer leading Scoring with 15 points, a great overall effort by the team to get a solid win. On Sunday the team travel to Mount Vernon, where they faced an aggressive team, lead by 2 very athletic big men, in this game the guards rose up and out played and out battled the Mount Vernon team, with Josh Bevan leading the way with 21 points, while Darion Joseph grabbed 14 rebounds and battled greatly with those Mt. Vernon bigs. The 8th grade boys ended the weekned 11-1 in WESCO and tied for 1st place."
January 23, 2012 - A very big thank you to all of the MaauB families for a very successful first weekend of hosting WESCO play. We appreciate everyone stepping up and filling assignments and making Marysville an exciting and welcome place for our WESCO opponents to play. Coming up this weekend are games at Mt. Vernon and Edmonds-Woodway. Please note that our Saturday game at Mt. Vernon has been moved to Sunday at 12:00 (5th & 7th) and 1:20 (6th & 8th). Due to the snow, we need to be flexible with both practice schedules and game schedules for another week. Now, on to the team reports for this week:
"On Saturday the SWISH boys played against the DAWGS at SVC. This game was consistently close. The boys continued to try to get ahead of them to no avail, regardless they played good with their defensive, started taking shots with more confidence and got reminded they need to start jumping more. As the clock kept ticking the final score was a close one at 18-22."

"While the weather outside was frightful, the heat on the court was delightful. The fifth-grade MAAUB team succeeded in
winning against both Glacier Peak (44-29) and Kamiak (61-38) by working together better than ever. Every player contributed to the victories, and many have battle wounds to show for it. The boys have worked hard to secure their 9 -0 Wesco record, and their skills and teamwork improve with each game.
Thanks to all who participated in making the MAAUB first “home game” adventure a success. And thanks to all the other MAUUB players and families (including several 4th/5th team players) for supporting our team! We are lucky to be part of such a great basketball community! Go Marysville! "

Parents and coaches, please check the Parent & Volunteer information page for your assignments with set-up, clean-up, and concessions. Please invite friends and family out to support our teams at home this weekend! Now, on to the reports from last weekend!
"The 4th/5th Select team had a great tournament going 2-2 over the weekend. Monday's final game was very exciting and came right down to the end. With the score 28-27, our opponent committed an intentional foul which resulted in 2 points and the ball with 7.6 seconds to go. We hung on for the win, with the final score 30-27. Congratulations to the boys/coach in how they pulled out winning the final game for the MLK tournament."

The MAAUB 5th grade team was awarded 3rd place out of 23 fifth-grade teams participating in the 2012 King Holiday Hoopfest Tournament.
The boys won their first two games (scheduled literally back-to-back) on Saturday. Sunday’s game was a fast and furious battle against the FOH team (which eventually won first place overall). Our team took an early lead in that game, but eventually was defeated. On Monday at HecEd, the boys dominated the court, running a great full-court press right out of the gate. The boys earned their third-place win, beating Kings 35-14. The coaches rotated all the players into the game repeatedly, and it was a great team win.
Congratulations, boys, on a job well done!

"The SWISH team played in the La Conner tournament this weekend and it led to a couple intense games. The game that took place on January 8th by far was the best one out of all of them. The boys were struggling the first half after they received a few reminders from their coach it led them to win 26-17. Good job to the boys and thank you to the parents for bringing their boys to the games."

"The MAAUB 5th grade team defeated the Stanwood Spartans, 45-30. It was a
high-paced, physical game in front of a packed house. The boys played well and maintained good sportsmanship
and poise during the intense matchup.
The team then took that show down the road to Meadowdale, where they continued to dominate the
court, winning 48-22. Every team member present hit the court, and it was a great team effort.Congratulations, boys! Keep up the great work in the MLK tournament in Seattle."

"Going into the final games before winter break our 5-0 6th graders had a tough task at hand playing on the road against two undefeated teams in Stanwood & Meadowdale. First up Stanwood. The boys came out with a fire from the opening tip building a double digit lead early. Stanwood battled back as expected and tied the game with a minute remaining and had possession. On the ensuing Stanwood inbounds pass Si Gould came up with a big steal. The go ahead score came when Ray Ray Pimentel received a pass from Jaden Chism, got fouled, made the shot, & completed the 3 point play by making the free throw with under 30 seconds to play to give us a 3 point lead. The following Stanwood possession Austin Hauck stole a pass, and Stanwood had to foul. Si Gould iced the game by making 2 clutch free throws which put us up 5 in the final remaining seconds and on to a 50-45 victory. We had 3 players in double figures for scoring. Si Gould led all scorers with 15 points, followed by Jadon Chism with 12, & Austin Hauck with 11. This was Stanwood's first league loss since starting as 5th graders. The energy from head coach Luke Carpenter & the entire team helped lead the boys to a much deserved win.
Second up, Meadowdale. We all new it would be hard to match the intensity & emotion of the Stanwood game, but the boys managed to rise to the occasion. The boys pulled out a 51-38 victory lead by an amazing game by Kyler "Flash" Gordon. Kyler led the team with a double double, scoring 19 points & pulling down 10 rebounds. Eric Anderson brought a spark defensively for the team and contributed 4 points off of the bench. Eric made a big 14 foot jump shot down the stretch to kill Meadowdale's run and help secure the win. Si Gould dropped in 12 points as the second leading scorer for the game. Following this victory it put Marysville all alone on top of the division, and the only undefeated remaining team in league at 7-0."

January 1, 2012 - This past week our 5th and 6th Grade teams participated in the Holiday Hoopfest hosted by the Edmonds-Woodway Feeder Program and the Edmonds Sports Academy. Here are the reports we have received so far from our team correspondants:
"The MAAUB fifth grade team played in the Holiday Hoopfest Tournament, and brought FIRST PLACE T-shirts home for the holidays, beating Edmonds-Woodway in the championship game 29-18. The boys played with boundless energy, and luckily get a few days for a not-so-long, winters nap before heading up to Stanwood on January 7th to ring-in 2012 and continued success!" -Liz Dobler
December 24, 2011 - Our Wesco teams played at Lake Stevens yesterday and our 4th/5th team competed in the Arlington Christmas Tournament held earlier today. Here are the reports that we have received so far from our team correspondants:
The 6th grade boys got off to a slow start offensively in the 1st quarter, but managed to limit Lake Stevens from scoring by playing great defense. The team got stronger as the game went on, which has been the 6th graders' strength all season. The entire team played very hard for 4 quarters to help lead Marysville to a 42-29 victory. Si Gould led all scorers with 14 points. Austin Hauck had the teams 1st double double of the season scoring 11 points, pulling down 17 rebounds, & securing 5 steals. "King" Felix provided a spark off the bench scoring 6 points & grabbing 3 rebounds. All in all it was another great team effort! The boys are off to a 5-0 start in league, & and an overall record of 12-1 going into the holiday break. They are looking forward to the upcoming Edmonds-Woodway tournament next week. Happy Holidays to everyone from all of the 6th grade coaches
"The first two games were a struggle for the boys, then the final 3rd game arrived and the boys blew all of us away and the other team. They took the score to over 40 points from great rebounding, great shots that were made and using the drills that they have been learning. In the end the 4th/5th team proved they have the heart to overcome defeat and took the last game 42-24."

"If Santa considers it naughty to hustle, these eleven boys are in big Christmas trouble. They hustled throughout the whole game against Lake Stevens, taking an early lead. The bench players entered the game and kept up the pace; every team member played and nearly every player scored. The 50-23 victory was a great team win! Next, we look forward to decking our halls with a first place trophy in the Edmonds tournament December 26 – 28. "

3/7/11 - Marysville AAU Basketball just turned in their best ever performance as a program in last weekends WESCO Championship Tournament. The 8th Grade team finished their WESCO AAU careers with a second place finish in the tournament. This finish goes along with another 2nd place finish last year and a Championship as 6th graders. A great accomplishment for this group of boys and Coach Green!
The 7th grade team suffered a tough 2nd round loss against Glacier Peak, but battled back to beat Stanwood in the 4th place game. This 4th place finish goes along with a strong 3rd place finish in last years tournament. We look forward to great things from this team and Coach Bevan in the 2011-2012 season!
The 5th grade team made a great run only to have the ball take a few bad bounces in the final minute of a championship game loss to a strong Stanwood team. The run to the championship game included a 20-point win over the 4th place finisher and a 14-point win over the 3rd place finisher. So a great first year in WESCO and a very bright future for the 5th grade team and Coach Shannon!
